July 12, 2008 Today I ate and slept. When I wasn't eating, I was sleeping. When I wasn't sleeping, I was eating. At some point I walked to the supermarket and purchased more to eat, and returned for a meal and a nap.
Most people would not consider this the most productive day, but then I'm not like most people. I've been running on a metaphorical empty tank for the last few months, getting through days on a minimum of sleep and caloric intake. It's worked out in the short term, but it's obvious that the habits I'm starting to form are not in the least bit sustainable. Starting today, I hope to restore my balance to an 8 hour night of sleep, a full workday, and a series of balanced meals all day long.
On Thursday I had the opportunity to go see Gyetrul Jigme Norbu Rinpoche teach a session to the audience of the Baltimore Shambhala Center. This session focused particularly on gaining a life balance by watching your environmental impact and limiting waste. My experience with Buddhist teachings is that they seem to emphasize moderation and balance as a path to happiness. This one was no exception, and the reminder was overdue for me.
Tonight's weigh-in: 123.5 lbs.
